Short Description

The department for radiation oncology of the Freiburg university hospital is one of the largest departments for radiation oncology in Germany, embedded in one of the largest Universities and University hospitals in Germany, running also a certified comprehensive cancer centre. The department commands over several large research groups, one of them dealing with topics related to imaging in radiation oncology. In this context, several self and externally funded clinical trials are running. There are close clinical and scientific local collaborations with the neighbouring departments for nuclear medicine (Prof. W. Weber), diagnostic radiology (Prof. M. Langer) and MRI physics (Prof. J. Hennig).

The department is involved in the education of medical and physics students at University level as part of its genuine task. Furthermore, national and international courses for radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine specialists and for medical physicists are organised and/or joined by the members of the department including courses in the framework of the ESTRO/EANM and of the DEGRO and DGMP.
