Fondazione Santa Lucia

Short Description

Fondazione Santa Lucia is a Scientific Institute for Research, Hospitalization and Health Care (IRCCS) in Rome, Italy, which carries out intensive research work in the fields of neuromotor rehabilitation and, more generally, of neuroscience. The Department of Radiology studies structural and functional brain maturation in humans throughout life, in health and diseases with the aim of overcoming the segmented approach which is typical of conventional specialisation training and scientific programs in order to transfer scientific research to the clinical activity.

The Department of Radiology at Fondazione Santa Lucia develops and implements MRI brain scan protocols and processing pipelines. Scans are being acquired for this purpose on the 1.5T and 3T scanners. Processing pipelines exist for volume quantification, Diffusion Tensor Imaging, brain iron-imaging, resting-state fMRI, BOLD fMRI, phase imaging. Current and accomplished research led by the key scientist focuses on volume quantifications, diffusion tensor imaging, brain iron imaging, fMRI (both BOLD and resting state) and phase imaging in a series of multimodal studies mainly focusing on acquired brain injury and neurodegenerative diseases. In the fMRI field, the functional networks topography is investigated both in resting and task-related conditions in neurological diseases.
